The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) is the authority in charge of defining the country’s agricultural strategic framework, formulating policies and implementing programmes for the development of the sector.
The MoA is responsible for setting an appropriate legal and regulatory framework, and enhancing infrastructure development to promote investment and improve agricultural production and marketing. The Ministry plays an important role in natural resources management (agricultural land, irrigation water, forests, fisheries, pasturelands) and also supports rural development programmes.
There are 4 Gender focal points within the MoA, operating respectively for:
- The Lebanese Agriculture Research Institute
- The Directorate of Cooperatives
- The GreenPlan
- The Directorate of Agriculture
The appointment of Gender focal points in the MoA follows the request by the National Commission for Lebanese Women that each Ministry be able to mainstream gender issues and promote gender equality, as well as to provide relevant data for drawing up the Beijing and CEDAW Reports.
