Training course on sheep and goats husbandry in Yosseff ElSedeek District of ELfayoum Governorate – Egypt
The Training course on “Sheeps and goats husbandry” took place in Elfayoum from 3 to 5 March 2020, involving 25 rural women from three villages of Yousef Alsedeek, AlNazlaa, Kahk Bahary villages.
The initiative was realized in collaboration with the ElFayoum Agricultural Directorate, aiming at providing theoretical and practical knowledge and skills on sheep and goat husbandry for women to increase their capacity to care for animals and, therefore, improve their dairy production. The training focused on:
- Explain the characteristics and learn to identify cattle breeds;
- Provide information on seasonal practices for proper goat and sheep husbandry;
- Share knowledge on age estimation, neutering, control of infections and diseases, herb gathering, feeding, and care before and after birth.
- Besides the specific learning objectives, the trainer and organizers ensured that the training environment allowed women to feel safe and confident, to participate actively and to ask questions openly based on their experience and problems encountered in animal husbandry.
