Nutrition & food safety workshop in Hebron, Nablus and Jerusalem

A series of three “Nutrition & food safety” workshops took place in Beit Ummar (Hebron), Nassarya (Nablus) and Beit Duku (Jerusalem), Palestine, respectively on 24th April, 3rd to 4th September and 11th to 12th September 2019. Organized by the PalestinianMinistry of Agriculture (MoA), and held by Lina Baher, specialist in nutrition and food safety, the workshops were aimed at the women beneficiaries of the GEMAISA2 project in the target areas.

The three workshops were divided in two sessions: the first focused on general concepts of nutrition and food safety, the second on traditional processing of fresh products. One of the sessions discussed the nutritional and health benefits of dairy products and provided the trainees with practical skills on feed management and milking, helping them to identify best practices on dairy products processing, focusing on:

  • Adoption of food safety procedures to protect dairy products from biological, physical and chemical contamination
  • Information about food poisoning (causes and symptoms)
  • The importance of following hygiene rules during dairy product production
  • How to prevent mold and staphylococcus aurous contamination in the production process
  • How to prevent cross-contamination during production 

Women participated actively in the workshops, that aimed at ensuring that their practical knowledge was aligned to safety standards, so to improve milk and products quality.
